Replace a headlight bulb

On many cars the bulb is changed from behind the headlight in minutes. On others the bumper must come off: check first.

Before you start

Xenon and LED headlights are not serviced like halogens: xenon high voltage is dangerous.

Steps

  1. Open the bonnet and remove the rubber cover behind the headlight.
  2. Unplug the connector, release the spring clip or twist the ring, and remove the bulb.
  3. Fit the new bulb without touching the glass with your fingers.
  4. Reconnect, refit the cover and test the light.

Safety

Finger grease on a halogen bulb makes it burst when hot.
